Position Summary:
Endoscopy Technician available to assist in providing quality care to patients in a manner which is patient focused and technically appropriate. The SDS/Endoscopy Technician collaborates with the physician and registered nurse to perform GI and pulmonary endoscopy procedures. The Tech anticipates physician and patient needs during complex procedures for critically ill andstable patients during endoscopy procedures. Responds quickly and appropriate to rapidly changing patient conditions.

Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
CNA Certification/CPR Certification

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
2 or more years hospital experience in an endoscopic/perianesthesia unit preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Specialized knowledge/skill competency will be provided through on the job training.

Essential Functions:
•         Collaborates with the physician and RN during the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. •         Provides psychological support to patients by answering questions and explaining procedures as needed. •         Processes and accurately labels specimens obtained during endoscopy procedures. •         Responds promptly to emergency situations collaborating with physician and RN. •         Provides training and mentoring of new staff in developing technical skills necessary for endoscopic. •         Ensures all quality assurance protocols have been properly completed and documented. •         Meticulously reprocesses endoscopes and accessories according to manufacturer recommendations and SGNA Practice Guidelines. •         Independently prioritizes unit work flow to deliver safe patient care while maximizing department efficiency. •         Implements pre-procedure, intra-procedure and post-procedure physician orders, as appropriate, regarding patient care. •         Ensures patient rooms are properly equipped with necessary standard and emergency supplies, etc. •         Assists with patient logistics throughout patient care areas including out-patient discharge. •         Works within the policies and procedures of infection control by demonstrating knowledge of proper disposal of contaminated materials and proper attire when in direct contact with patients on isolation precautions. •         Provides a safe environment for patients by ensuring that equipment is functioning properly. Promptly removes and reports any non-conforming equipment. •         Monitors the use of and procures unit supplies and ensures essential disposable inventory is maintained. •         Demonstrates ability to respond to emergency situations. •         Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participates in safety initiatives. •         Maintains patient dignity and confidentiality.
