Position Summary:

Performs specific duties and procedures in the treatment and care of patients in order to assist the obstetrical team. Serve

as a scrub tech as primary duty to the patient . Works under the direction of the RN.


Essential Functions:

Demonstrates clinical competence in patient care duties. Ensures care is delivered in accordance with the established

methods and procedures of the system. a. Assists with providing and maintaining a safe and comfortable OR and

delivery room area for OB surgical patients and demonstrates knowledge of and maintains aseptic technique and correct

sterilization methods. b. Prioritizes and organizes own workload in collaboration with the RN to meet patient care and

unit needs. c. Performs scrub duties and demonstrates working knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments and

supplies. d. Assists in organizing and coordinating required instruments, equipment and supplies, prepares OR and labor

and delivery rooms prior to beginning of case. e. Provide patient care to patients as delegated by RN. f. Demonstrates

knowledge of and ability to operate standard and specialized OR/OB equipment. g. Assist is maintenance, care, cleaning

and packaging of standard and specialty instruments and supplies. h. Assists the RN by checking the OR suite for

completeness of all instruments, supplies, and equipment. Notifies RN if anything missing from room or equipment is

not in good working order. Works with unit leadership to order and maintain supplies and equipment. i. Assist as

directed in preparing unit, patient rooms and beds for patient admission, returning patient, transfers or emergencies. j.

Retrieves necessary patient care items as directed from pharmacy, central supply, warehouse, etc. Works with unit

leadership to order and maintain supply and equipment par levels. k. Clearly communicates to the RN the pain

management and education needs of patient. l. Takes call when necessary to provide appropriate staffing for unit. m.

Observes and timely reports patient needs and conditions to the RN. n. Responds to patient’s call light in a timely

manner. o. Practices appropriate utilization of supplies and equipment. p. Ensures that patient items/valuables are safe

guarded. q. Monitors that all patients (mothers, significant other and infants) have appropriate identification and security

bracelets. r. Follows all infant safety precautions and guidelines. s. Stops surgical procedure if active time out is not

completed or if instrument/sponge counts are not correct.
