Job Description

Position Summary:
The Reproductive Medicine Andrology/Endocrinology Lab Technician performs pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases of tests for Reproductive Medicine. Recognizes abnormal or unexpected results and initiates follow-up or corrective actions. Conducts quality control procedures and complies with the laboratory safety practices, regulations, and policies. Properly collects, handles, processes and stores specimens. Compares test results to reference ranges and determines the report ability of results using preset criteria. Performs phlebotomy.

Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors Related Field or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certificate is a valid substitution for Bachelor's Degree.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors Related Field or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certificate is a valid substitution for Bachelor's Degree.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Basic computer skills required.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs semen processing for therapeutic inseminations which includes semen analysis, semen freezing, phlebotomy and processing blood samples for reproductive hormone analysis.
  • Recognizes abnormal or unexpected results and initiates follow-up or corrective actions.
  • Determines specimen suitability for analysis.
  • Maintains assay and instruments quality control, calibration and quality assurance in the Andrology Laboratory according to schedule and appropriately document all actions.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
  • Maintains laboratory tissue database.
  • Maintains liquid nitrogen tank inventory.
  • Communicates results to physicians and nurses.
  • Responds to any clinic or medically related request made by Laboratory Director, Medical Director, Laboratory Supervisor or Reproductive Medicine Coordinator.
  • Quality control on Immulite and Andrology testing
  • Accurate running of lab tests and providing results to provider
  • Daily phlebotomy draws
  • Monitor lab equipment and document findings
  • Labeling and identifying received semen samples
  • Monitoring of lab supplies, report to supervisor needed re orders
